How to Use the Word Counter

  1. Type or paste your text into the editor. Word, character, sentence, paragraph, and line counts update in real time.
  2. View the estimated reading time and speaking time for your text.
  3. Check keyword density to see which terms appear most frequently (with stopwords filtered out).
  4. Use the platform limit indicators to see if your text fits Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or academic requirements.

Why Count Words and Characters

Different writing contexts have very different length requirements. A tweet must be under 280 characters; an Instagram caption under 2,200; a LinkedIn post under 3,000 characters for optimal reach; a blog post SEO-optimized for a competitive keyword needs 1,500-2,500 words; a college essay has a hard 650-word limit; a press release should be 400-600 words. Writing without tracking length means constant manual counting or submitting over-length work.

The keyword density feature serves SEO writers directly: Google's guidelines recommend that your primary keyword appear at a density of 1-2% — high enough to be topically relevant, low enough to avoid "keyword stuffing" that triggers penalties. Seeing the density in real time lets you adjust as you write rather than retroactively counting and editing.
